ALOHA!

Studio M

Millicent in the studio at the piano.'Relation SHIP' is about to sail!  If the weather cooperates, it will be available this summer.  Millicent's previous CD etitled, 'Compassionate Heart', marked a turning point in her musical her story as an inspired expression of our times while being firmly anchored in universal principles that persist from age to age. Before that, 'Altar Native' talked about the Hawaiian Islands, (A live recording of a concert where she presented love song for each island), as a metaphor for global and interpersonal issues.  And before that, 'Island Rose'...A diverse collection of songs touching on before mentioned elements.  And long before these...A recording simply called 'Millicent', back in the early 90's.

Lyrics to Compassionate Heart

1.  Pluckin'
I called out to the mornin' and she whispered back to me
Haven't you ever really wanted nothing more and nothing less than to be free
Take another shot of courage, take whatever it takes
We are a long long way from home ya'll, and we're all going to the same place
I've been down this road before, thinkin' that I really know something
I've been thinkin' I'd be better off, just rockin', rock and rollin'
There are those who say but do not know, there are those who know but do not say
I am just a painter somewhere here in the middle where black and white mean gray
You say I'm self indulgent from the comfort of your entertainment room
While I've been down here on the front line just long enough to tell you
I've been down this road before, thinkin' that I really know something
And I've been thinkin' I'd be better off, just rockin', rock and rollin'
I got rock and roll all the way down to my toes
And my rhythm and blues got soul that's why its down with the folk
I got country and western where the hillbilly blue grass grows
I got a city slickin' slack key Milly Joe for one pretty pickin' kick ass show
Yo...You think you can tell me how to write a good song
While I've been livin' here where every single song comes from
If you only knew the dues that I have paid
You'd say the same thing that I'm gonna say to you
Pluck you and every one of your strings, pluck you Im gonna put em' into a new tuning
Pluck you I'm gonna bang em' until they scream...I'll say the same thing that you could say to me
I've been down this road before, thinkin' that I really know something
I've been thinkin' I'd be better off, just rockin', rockin'

2.  Hurricane
Won't you carry me home, I've been travelin' for too long
Not even the beauty of Hanalei is helping me to find my way
Where are the trees, where are the birds
Where is the breeze, where are the words to carry me home
Hold me, I think I'm flyin' away, the only anchor around here for me to stay
Seems to me to become somebody else and Lord knows that's just too high a price for me to pay
Lord knows that's just too high a price for me to pay
I just came back now off the road to give a concert where nobody showed
We're all too busy in our lives to see what's standin' right before our eyes
Where is the hook, where is the float
Where is the line, where is the boat to carry me home
Hold me, I think I'm flyin' away, the only anchor around here for me to stay
Seems to me to become somebody else and Lord knows that's just too high a price for me to pay
Lord knows that's just too high a price for me to pay
I don't really know where to go in this mean, meantime
Throw me a rope, won't you send me a sign
The waves are comin' in now followin' the rain, Lord knows I feel like a hurricane
Hold me, I think I'm flyin' away, the only anchor around here for me to stay
Seems to me to become somebody else, and Lord knows that's just too high a price for me to pay
Lord knows that's just too high a price for me to pay

3.  Have you Forgotten
Waves roll in all along the shore like they've seen it all before
And the light house is calling out about the days of yore and I am just a tiny light in the crack of closing door
Open up your windows...You think it's winter now, tell me where do you see snow
Have you forgotten how the tiny seeds grow, have you forgotten now what you really do know?
Do you remember the ground beneath your feet, do you remember that it's still there underneath the streets
And when you were young and knew that freedom was free...Why have you changed your mind and chained it to a dream
Open up your memory...You think it can't be done so you hold on to your misery
Have you forgotten what you wanted to be, have you forgotten now your reality?
And all the good people know the world would be a better place if every single one in the whole human race
Could look at each other like a mirror face to face and forgive one another for all of our mistakes
Open up your heart...You think it's easy now while you wait for someone else to start
Have you forgotten the horse goes before the cart, have you forgotten how to play your part?
And I see my whole life pass before my eyes and the train is not stopping and the tracks are not very wide
And the steel wheel rolls, rolls like an outgoing tide, I can almost hear the whistle blow hang on for the ride
Open up your ears...You think you're different as the days turn into years
Have you forgotten how fast you will disappear, have you forgotten how to steer?
Waves roll in all along the shore like they've seen it all before
And the light house is calling out about the days of yore and I am just a tiny light in the crack of closing door
Open up your mind...You think you're all alone but that's not what you will find
Have you forgotten how to read the signs...Have you forgotten now, you are Divine?
You are Divine.

4.  Compassionate Heart
I hear no thunder, I see no gray
I have no explanation for why I feel this way
Some say it's just chemistry while others point to the stars
I think I feel my family, I think I've gone to fay into the dark of the compassionate heart
I dream of hurricanes and land mines and closed roads
Sometimes I think I'm going insane, sometimes I get stoned
They say we should be happy that these tragedies aren't ours
I say I would give everything if every one could meet just for one hour, in the dark of the compassionate heart
But I believe it is possible to create something new, I have done it in my own life so I know it is true
Synchronize your watches, open your eyes, let go of your purses to catch the sunrise
Self doubt is a devil, remembrance is a god
Some tribes they seem to revel while other tribes get lost
When all along there is only one, only one human family
When will we remember love, when oh when will we see in the dark of the compassionate heart
History confesses that all of these messes are born out of hatred afraid of the darkness
Leading arms races while feeding harms way as we self medicate just to face another day
But I believe it is possible to create something new
You have done it in your own life so you know it is true, yes,
Synchronize your watches, come on and open your eyes
Let go of your purses and catch the sunrise in the dark of the compassionate heart

5.  Meeting: Instrumental

6.  We are Calling
In the music of a dew drop falling from a tree she is calling, Saraswati
In the painting of a sunrise splashed upon your dreams he is calling, Sri Krisna
If you knew the night would surely come, would you wait again until the morning?
Ma Pa Da Ma Pa Da Pa Da Ni Pa Da Ni Ga Ma Pa Ga Ma Pa It is all God
All life, nursing a child, planting a garden, watching the sunrise, making love
All night, stars are shining, planets are dying, flowers unfolding...It is all God
Every form is made of you, every name is surely true
Where all formlessness is seen in the waking of a dream
In the hollow of a seashell whispering every name they are calling Wakan Tanka
In the losing of a loved one to the beauty of old age they are calling Aumakua
If you knew the night would surely come, wod you wait again until the morning?
Ma Pa Da Ma Pa Da Pa Da Ni Pa Da Ni Ga Ma Pa Ga Ma Pa It is all God
All life, nursing a child, planting a garden, watching the sunrise, making love
All night, stars are shining, planets are dying, flowers unfolding...It is all God
Every form is made of you, every name is surely true
Where all formlessness is seen in the waking of a dream

7.  Peace
Well there's so many people feeling so, so blue, there's only one thing I can think of to do
To keep my own center, to be my own happiness, to be one less angry person on this planet
I'm gonna shift my energy, Honey do you wanna shift it with me?
For a world at peace, at peace with the world...For all families to be happy, every single boy and girl
For all wealth to be recognized as just a metaphor for this...To be at peace with the world for a world at peace
Well life is so much shorter than we give it credit, any time it could be over, over in one heart beat
And I don't have time to be my brother's keeper, there's barely time enough to be my own seeker
I'm gonna change my attitude, Honey do you wanna change yours too?
For a world at peace, at peace with the world...For all families to be happy, every single boy and girl
For all wealth to be recognized as just a metaphor for this...To be at peace with the world for a world at peace
And when the final curtain calls you down, will you be lost little darlin' or will you be found,
Holding on to your dear, dear life so you can do a little better in the next round, in the next round, the next round
For a world at peace, at peace with the world...For all families to be happy, every single boy and girl
For all wealth to be recognized as just a metaphor for this...To be at peace with the world for a world at peace
To be at peace with the world
To be at peace

8.  Maika'i Pono
I wake up in the morning to see your smiling eyes
Oh my little darlin', how can I even try
How will I ever tell you, how will you ever know Maika'i Pono?
Papaya in a blender with some avo and poi, never ever ever was there a cuter little boy
How will I ever tell you, how will you ever know Maika'i Pono?
Summer breeze is born out of the spring, autumn leaves a trail for winter to follow
Butterfly wings unfurling in the wind...I'm so cherishing watching you grow, Maika'i Pono
And when you're older with children of your own, maybe then my darlin' you will know
Just how I feel about you...Miracle of miracles, Maika'i Pono
Summer breeze is born out of the spring, autumn leaves a trail for winter to follow
Butterfly wings unfurling in the wind...I'm so cherishing watching you grow, Maika'i Pono
Maika'i Pono, Maika'i Pono, Maika'i Pono,

9.  Hold your Love

Hold your love, it doesn't matter who it's for or where it's from
And shine your light, it doesn't matter if they say it's wrong or right...Now is the time
And keep your faith, don't let anybody ever ever take that away
No one but you can really know the truth but yourself anyway
It's a language of the heart, that words can hardly impart
But I'm going to try anyway to say
That when you're blue, this song it will be there for you
And when you're alone, just hold onto this song
Lift your eyes, behind every sun that sets, there is a sunrise
And don't forget that everybody has a bad day now and again
Try to be a friend because you never know when
You're gonna need a helping hand like the one you got right there to lend
And when you're blue, this song it will be there for you
And when you're alone, just hold onto this song
